Getting your ideal job
By Richard Akin
Filling a job vacancy can be very easy for may of us but ensuring that we get our ideal job can
at times be a very difficult task at times. When I mean the ideal job I mean one with a decent salary, wonderful
boss and state of the art facilities and one that is missed so much that we can't wait for the weekend to be
over.
I can truly say that there are not many people who can honestly say that they have an ideal
job.
Is there anything such as an ideal job? I can truly say that not many jobs will tick all your
boxes, but there are ways to ensure that whatever career path you choose to pursue will be ideal enough for you
to want to wake up in the morning and go to work and enjoy the working hours.
As we all know that the job market has now become very competitive. There are many job vacancies
advertised in the papers or on the internet and just too many people competing to fill those job vacancies. In
order to get an ideal job, be it part time or full time employment you have to do some form of
preparation. This preparation will involve some effort on your part and if you stick to your game plan you are
bound to get your ideal job or career. When I use the term job I am referring to working for an employer who
will pay you a salary as a reward for your contribution.
Planning on what kind of job you want is a very good approach to ensure that you are on the
right path to gain employment in that ideal job.
There are a number of questions which you may want to ask yourself before you decide to start
job hunting or scouring all the latest job vacancies available. Here are some questions which you may want
to write down on a sheet of paper and answer honestly.
-
What do I like doing?
-
What am I good at doing?
-
What am I trained to do?
-
What do people around me say I am good at doing?
-
What are my life experiences?
-
Do I work at my best in a team or as an individual?
-
Do I want to be in control of what I do or would I like to be told what to do?
-
What would I like to be paid for my role?
-
How far do I wish to travel to get to work?
-
Would I like to find a job locally or abroad?
Going through this checklist will provide you with an idea of suitable roles which you may want
to look into.
When you have answered all these questions honestly you might want to sit down and go through
the checklist and ask yourself what kind of jobs offers me what I want and also will ensure that I am efficient
at any tasks which I will be carrying out when I am employed.
The questions that you will be asking yourself will enable you to analyse your strengths
and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes and these factors can be used to target a certain type of career
path which you feel you will find suitable. As we know not all jobs are suitable for everyone so it is vital
that you look for a career or a job which you feel you will enjoy and also be efficient at carrying out.
